Planning to root your Galaxy Note 3? Unfortunately, doing so is easier said than done, thanks to Samsung’s KNOX security. The problem is that rooting the Note 3 apparently triggers a response from the KNOX security software that will effectively mess up your phone, setting its status to unofficial and voiding your warranty. The good news is that a solution has now been found.
The so-called Root de la Vega method has now been released, thanks to the efforts of XDA developers designgears and Chainfire. This new method doesn’t mess with KNOX, but you do have to go through a few hoops to get it to work.
You’ll need a Windows PC, Samsung’s Odin flash tool, and a moderate amount of modding/flashing/rooting knowledge to get this method working without a hitch. Basically you’ll be flashing a modified, pre-rooted version of the Note 3’s latest firmware.
The new root method is compatible with model SM-N9005, SM-N900W8, and the Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile variants of the Note 3. Keep in mind that the Root de la Vega method only provides root. Custom recoveries and custom ROMs are still not possible just yet.
Installing custom firmware comes with a certain level of risk, so proceed with caution. If you don’t feel comfortable with these kinds of advanced rooting methods, you are probably best avoiding this method for now.
